Crew members return home The three crew members of the abandoned Angolan cargoship, the Kifangondo, returned home yesterday after spending more than two years guarding the vessel in the port of Le Havre. Nous avons rencontré Etienne Schouppe, administrateur délégué de la SNCB. Quand on l'interroge sur l'avenir de la société et sur son évolution vers une dimension dépassant de loin le cadre étroit du "simple" réseau ferroviaire belge, on se rend bien compte qu'il ne peut être question d'une telle scission. Au contraire, on perçoit qu'il existe bel et bien une réelle volonté de jouer autre chose qu'un rôle de simple figurant. Surtout à Anvers, où Schouppe estime qu'on ne dispose pas de la place suffisante pour "offrir" un terminal dédié à un armement. "A Anvers, on a voulu créer du volume, à n'importe quel prix (surtout les plus bas), mais ce n'est pas le volume qui génère suffisamment de cash flow pour financer d'autres investissements ou des modernisations. Il est temps de mettre fin à une concurrence suicidaire entre manutentionnaires. Et je suis prêt à discuter de coopération avec eux, afin qu'ensemble, nous atteignions une taille suffisante pour faire face à la concurrence qui n'est plus intra muros mais européenne".
