Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. said Tuesday its group pretax profit rose to 10.91 billion yen in the first half of fiscal 2000, after recording a loss of 38.71 billion yen in the same period a year earlier.

Japan's largest heavy-machinery manufacturer attributed the profit to improved performance in the sectors of midsize manufactured products, such as air conditioning equipment, forklifts and machine tools.
