Alva Star saved after cliff calamity THE Alva Star has been salvaged after running into a cliff at full cruising speed. The 2,987 teu containership was en route from Haifa to Kepec, Croatia, on October 3 when it ran into a 100 m high cliff on the southeast corner of Zakinthos Island, burying it's bulbous bow in rocks. Huit transporteurs britanniques créent Jigsaw Solutions Huit sociétés régionales de transport routier et une entreprise de consultance en transport ont annoncé la création d’une entreprise commune baptisée Jigsaw Solutions Ltd. Elles veulent ainsi faire face à la concurrence d’un certain nombre d’entreprises de plus en plus grandes sur le marché britannique, comme Eddie Stobart ou Norbert Dentressangle. Si l’on additionne leurs parcs, elles arrivent à 1.400 tracteurs et 2.000 semi-remorques, ce qui en fait la deuxième plus grande flotte du pays, derrière Stobart. Les ports flamands optent pour un système de caution La directive européenne 2000/59/EG sur la remise et la réception des déchets ménagers de navires, de restes pétroliers de la salle des machines et de résidus de cargaison dans les ports maritimes entrera officiellement en vigueur le 28 décembre prochain (voir également l’article sur notre page “Université et Transport” à la page 4). Cette directive, qui a pour but principal de lutter contre le déversement en mer et dans les eaux de surface de déchets maritimes, exige entre autres que les navires remettent effectivement leur déchets et que les ports élaborent un système de financement dans lequel les coûts pour la réception et le traitement de ces matières sont répercutés sur les navires. La directive ne donne aucune indication quant à la forme concrète de ce système. Chaque pays ou port était libre de développer sa propre réglementation. La piste de pensée la plus courante dans ce contexte consistait à répercuter indirectement une partie plus ou moins grande de ce coût dans les droits portuaires. De nombreux acteurs craignaient toutefois que cette approche entraînerait des distorsions de concurrence. Mais les ports maritimes flamands sont arrivés ensemble à une alternative très intéressante pour ce qui est de la remise des déchets ménagers et les résidus pétroliers (1). Les navires devront payer une caution - calculée sur base de leur type, taille et voyage - qui leur sera remboursée après la présentation d’une attestation de remise des déchets. Ce système offre de nombreux avantages et suscite un vif intérêt à l’étranger, nous ont déclaré le capitaine Dirk Vernaeve et l’adjointe de la direction Petra De Somere de la capitainerie du port de Gand. Le port d’Abidjan subit les effets de la crise ivoirienne Abidjan, le principal port de la Côte-d’Ivoire, va vraisemblablement subir le contre-coup de la crise politico-militaire que traverse ce pays ouest-africain, premier producteur de cacao et cinquième producteur de café, depuis le mois dernier. Alors que débute la campagne d’exportation du cacao, le port ne voit pas encore passer les tonnages espérés, suite à l’occupation par les rebelles des centres de production ou de passage dans les régions centrale et orientale. L’année dernière, Abidjan avait traité un trafic d’environ 17 millions de tonnes, dont plus d’un million de tonnes de marchandises en transit et en transhipment.
