- The increase in the price of energy products weighs on the activity
of Swiss ports on the Rhine

liquid fuels decreased by more than -43%

In the first half of this year, Switzerland's river ports
on the Rhine they handled 2.3 million tonnes of goods, with
a decrease of -17.8% compared to 2.8 million tons in the first
mid-2021. Schweizerischen Rheinhäfen (SRH), the institution
which manages the river ports of Kleinhüningen, Birsfelden and
Auhafen Muttenz, specified that the decline was
determined almost exclusively by high oil prices, and
of the energy caused by the war in Ukraine, with the consequence that
stocks of mineral oils have been significantly reduced and
imports have been reduced to minimum levels. In the first six months
by 2022 these types of products in Swiss ports have
recorded a decrease of more than -43% with only 724 thousand
tons of liquid fuels imported through the airports
Rhine river compared to 1.29 million in the first half of the
last year.-
- Particularly consistent, however, was the growth
of container traffic which was equal to 71,860 teu, with
a progression of +17.0% on the first six months of last year and
even higher than the 63 thousand teu enlivened in the first half
of the pre-pandemic year of 2019 (when the overall traffic was
state of 3.2 million tons).
