A railway customs corridor between the port of Trieste and Fürnitz (Carinthia) is being studied

The aim is to establish a customs corridor railway between Trieste and Fürnitz, where the intermodal center Logistik Center Austria Süd (LCA Süd) with the aim of developing it as an important logistics hub international. The intent is that the containers that arrive in the port of Trieste can be disembarked from the ship directly on the railway wagons and transported to Fürnitz where it will come customs clearance of the goods and where they will come from distributed nationally and internationally. With the start of the fast corridor a further increase in traffic is expected railway between the port of Trieste and the LCA Süd terminal, line that trains already run several times at the week.

Minister Schuschnig pointed out that the one planned will be the first railway customs corridor in Europe, from which the Carinthia will benefit enormously. "Thank you. intensified cooperation with Adriatic ports, in particular with the port of Trieste, with ÖBB and with the logistics center of Villach-Fürnitz is creating a solid foundation for the Carinthia is not a transit territory for traffic railway, but so that value is created and places of work in the State'.
The President of the AdSP of the Eastern Adriatic Sea has recalled the importance of the port of Trieste as a port of call connected by rail to Europe: "our airport - has underlined D'Agostino - already exceeds the targets for the 2030 and 2050 set by the EU for the transport of goods by road rail: over 50% of containers and 41% of trailers come transported abroad by rail. These data show that the Trieste's international know-how is not only about capacity to manage maritime traffic flows, but also important flows intermodal to all major hubs in Europe central-eastern. Therefore we intend to create more and more alliances with the main players in European logistics, and Fürnitz it's one of them."
Cociancich confirmed Adriafer's high interest in the railway corridor: "we are confident - he said - that collaboration with Italian and Austrian institutions, with ÖBB and RCG, will lead to the creation of new relationships that increase the attractiveness of our hubs and added value to the companies present in our territories».
