Exports declined 0.6 percent year-on-year to $14.34 billion in March, marking the first contraction in 23 months due to the slowdown in the global economy, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said yesterday.

It is the first time Korea has suffered a slide in exports since April 1999, when the overseas shipments retreated 4.7 percent.
