
In the first three months of 2026, the port of Palermo handled
1.82 million tons of goods, with a decrease of -6.3% on the first
quarter of 2025 which, as in the last quarter of last year,
year, was determined by the contraction in the volumes of
loads in all the main product segments. In addition, the
contraction in traffic was generated by the reduction in
-16.7% of goods at embarkation which amounted to 650 thousand
tons, while those at the landing recorded a slight
increase of +0.6% to 1.17 million tons.
In the main traffic segment, that of rolling stock, in the
first quarter of this year were moved
1.73 million tonnes (-1.3%) More
marked declines in both liquid bulk cargo, which
totaled 72 thousand tons of refined petroleum products
(-37.0%), and dry bulk cargo which amounted to 20 thousand tons
(-38%). After the transfer to the port of Termini Imerese of the
container traffic that in the first three months of 2026 in Palermo was
amounted to 45 thousand tons, this commodity item was
zeroed.
In the first quarter of 2026 in Palermo, it was
Ferry passenger traffic also decreased, which was
184 thousand units (-6.8%), while traffic
increased by +7.0% to 144 thousand passengers,
of which 27 thousand at disembarkation/embarkation (+27.3%) and 117 thousand in transit
(+3,2%).
Among the other ports administered by the System Authority
Port of the Western Sicilian Sea, in the first three months of
this year the port of Termini Imerese has moved
298 thousand tons of goods (-22.6%), the port of Trapani 139 thousand
tons (-2.4%), the port of Porto Empedocle 186 thousand (+55.0%), the
port of Gela 369 thousand (+30.6%) and the port of Licata 31 thousand
tons (-21.6%).
