
On the occasion of Eurosatory, an international event
dedicated to defense and security underway in Paris, Fincantieri
and Republikorp, Indonesia's largest private holding company in the
defence sector, through its subsidiary PT Republik Palindo
International Cooperation (RPAL), announced the signing of a memorandum of
understanding that provides for the establishment of a joint venture
aimed at supporting shipbuilding capabilities
national partnerships and promote industrial cooperation
long-term.
The collaboration involves the on-site construction of units
advanced naval systems, designed in line with the specificities of the
geographical and operational aspects of Indonesia. The future joint venture will be
oriented towards the development of solid local production capacities
and will enable the deployment of several platforms, including
High Value-Added Amphibious Units (LPD/LHD), frigates and
multi-role corvettes with high deterrence capacity,
patrol boats for the surveillance of the Exclusive Economic Zone,
fast attack vehicles and submarines.
Fincantieri specified that the key element of the agreement is
a structured approach to technology and skills transfer
and, leveraging the expertise of the Italian company, the initiative
support local capacity building
through engineering cooperation, training programmes and
the progressive strengthening of skills in the design field,
Systems and production integration. By fostering the growth of
qualified local skills and supporting the development of the supply chain
partnership aims to progressively integrate Indonesia
in the global shipbuilding value chain. The MoU
also provides for closer industrial cooperation and
operational, contributing to the development of naval capabilities
of the country.
