Last July, the port of Ravenna handled 2.52 million of tons of goods, with an increase of +6.7% on July 2025 driven by the +27.0% growth in dry bulk cargo that totaled 1.18 million tonnes. In the bulk sector Petroleum products fell by -6.6% to 421 thousand tons while other cargoes recorded an increase of +56.5% rising to 209 thousand tons. In the miscellaneous goods segment containers increased with 206 thousand tons (+3.0%), while rolling stock decreased with 153 thousand tons (-9.9%) and conventional goods with 351 thousand tons (-26.7%). The cruise traffic was 70 thousand passengers (+43.8%).

The Port System Authority of the Central Adriatic Sea Settentrionale announced that the forecast indicates for the month of August 2026 a freight traffic equal to a total of almost 1.8 million tonnes, with a significant year-on-year decrease of -21.2% which - explained the institution - is attributable basically three product categories: solid agri-food (-46.7%) and liquids (-79.7%) and metallurgical products (-47.6%). With regard to steel products, the Port Authority specified that these are subject to the expected quarterly management of quotas authorized for import without the application of new duties from the EU; in August, the quarterly quota was exhausted and companies had increased the warehouse in the previous months. In September, with the reopening of the import quota - specified the institution - expects a return to normality. Relatively to solid agri-food products, the decline mainly derives the inoperability of Ukrainian ports due to to the intensification of the war conflict. In the coming months, awaits the arrival of ships from the small ports of the Danube (provided that military situation permits) and other countries of imports. With regard to the sharp decline in vegetable oils, in particular particular rapeseed and sunflower seed oils used in the energy supply chain, the body explained that it is linked to a change in the methods of disbursement of GSE incentives that it has created uncertainties about stock and import policies.

In addition, a substantial increase in the for liquid chemicals (-2.1%) and for materials to be construction (-1.9%). On the other hand, goods on the other hand are expected to be negative trailers (-9.4%) and the number of trailers (-7.5%). For containers, it is An increase of +9.8% in TEUs is expected. Finally, in August, strong growth in cruise passengers with over 86 thousand passengers (+29.8%).

In the period January-July 2026, the port of Ravenna handled a total of 16.63 million tons of goods, up +6.0% compared to the same period last year. Landings amounted to 14.68 million tons (+7.1%) and shipments to 1.95 million (-1.5%).

Commenting on the port traffic data, the president of the Port Authority, Francesco Benevolo, noted that "the port of Ravenna maintains an overall growth in traffic of more than 2.5% and this testifies to their good health and dynamism. Nevertheless - he specified - the trajectory positive results in recent months should not lead us to underestimate the signs slowdown that emerged in August which, although expected, demonstrate the vulnerability of our airport in front of us as well current international macroeconomic scenarios. To preserve the strategic value of the port of Ravenna, which I remember is the Gateway for raw materials that feed supply chains fundamental for the entire production system of our country - Benevolent – support and commitment are essential joint government and the Emilia-Romagna Region.
