Autorizzazione ad operare in Italia per la Crossrail

La società ferroviaria con sede in Svizzera Crossrail ha ottenuto l'autorizzazione ad effettuare operazioni con convogli propri in Italia.

Ciò significa che i suoi servizi ferroviari con orario programmato da e per il paese possono essere effettuati senza dover cambiare la locomotiva alla frontiera.

Fino adesso, questi servizi sono stati effettuati in collaborazione con la società ferroviaria statale Trenitalia, attraverso la sua consociata Serfer.

La Crossrail si aspetta di entrare nel mercato italiano con treni propri entro la seconda metà di quest'anno ed i suoi macchinisti hanno già iniziato a sottoporsi all'addestramento necessario.

L'equipaggiamento della Crossrail a partire dalla metà dell'anno prossimo sarà integrato da 14 locomotive multisistema.

Esse saranno noleggiate dalla CBRail, una consociata della Babcock & Brown.

Quest'ultima dal 2006 è la proprietaria della Crossrail.

Al fine di agevolare la crescita del proprio traffico italiano, la Crossrail ha rafforzato il proprio ufficio in loco mediante la nomina di Mauro Pessano, in precedenza amministratore delegato del servizio intermodale dall'Italia alla Germania della Hannibal (gruppo Eurogate), con sede a Milano.

Al momento attuale, la Crossrail offre un servizio ferroviario settimanale dal Benelux a Novara, a 25 km da Milano.

Un ulteriore servizio intermodale diretto viene effettuato quattro volte alla settimana da Duisburg in Germania a Domodossola, 100 km a nord di Milano; ci si aspetta che esso aumenti la frequenza sino a sei volte la settimana entro giugno 2007.

Quando le nuove locomotive saranno a disposizione, il programma prevede che dall'Italia alla Germania vengano effettuate 20 coppie di treni al giorno.
