- OK of the EU to aid to the Italian maritime sector
through the decontribution of labor costs

The expected green light has come from the European Commission to
Italian aid package of €119 million for services
maritime cabotage provided for by Decree-Law no. 104 of 14
August 2020 "Urgent measures to support the economy".
Brussels specified that the measure, planned in the context
of the Covid-19 pandemic, has been approved under the
Temporary framework on State aid and will be open to
shipping companies active in the cabotage and
other maritime services, with the help that it will take the form of
an exemption from the payment of social security contributions, and
assistance due for the period between the first of August
2020 and 31 December 2021. The aim of the measure is to reduce
the labour costs of seafarers employed by the beneficiaries
of the aid by helping to meet their liquidity needs
and allowing them to continue activities during and after
the health crisis.
