MSC Cruises ships are ISO 21070:2017 certified for the protection of the marine environment
All future units of the fleet will also receive recognition

The 19 ships in MSC Cruises' fleet have been awarded the ISO 21070:2017 certification for environmental protection marine, recognition concerning the procedures for the management of waste on board ships, including control, collection, separation, cataloguing, treatment and storage. The certification also includes the system by which ships enter into communication with the structures on the ground and deliver the waste from port reception facilities. Also all future MSC Cruises units will receive this certification not as soon as they enter service.
ISO 21070:2017 certification is complementary to the EU Implementing Regulation 2022/91 of 21 January 2022 which defines the criteria for establishing that a ship produces quantities reduce waste by managing it in a sustainable and ecological way. The ISO criteria provide additional information on the practices of waste management that port authorities can take into account to calculate the reduction of tariffs for the use of port reception facilities in accordance with with eu directive 2019/883.
