
Today, the Indian government has adopted a strategy to
revitalize the national shipbuilding sector that
includes a support package worth €697.2 billion
rupees ($7.2 billion). An allocation of 247.4 billion
under the Shipbuilding Financial Assistance programme
Scheme is intended for a financial assistance scheme
for the sector with the aim of mitigating the disadvantages in terms of
costs of Indian shipyards compared to competitors of other
nations. An additional 250.0 million rupees in the Maritime sector
Development Fund will be used to provide financial support
in the long term to the shipbuilding and maritime sector, while 199.9
billion rupees under the Shipbuilding Development Scheme
will be used to help expand capacity
4.5 million tons of
gross tonnage per year through the creation of new districts
construction sites and the expansion of shipyard capacity
naval vehicles.
