Shipbuilders stop work as work drought looms

AUSTRALIA'S 4000 naval shipyard workers will stop work on Wednesday to call on the government to urgently provide more work at the nation's shipyards to prevent thousands of job losses.
The move follows The Australian's revelation two weeks ago that 1100 jobs will be lost at Melbourne's Williamstown naval shipyard by the end of next year unless the government fast-tracks naval projects immediately.
The loss of 1100 shipyard workers in Victoria by the end of next year, on top of 1200 job losses by late 2016 announced last week by Ford, would be a devastating blow to the state's manufacturing industry ...... Read more on The Australian
