Nel 2004 la capacità della flotta di portacontainer cellulari è cresciuta del 9,8% a 7.290.305 teu

Alla fine di quest'anno la capacità in termini di teu della flotta di portacontainer cellulari del mondo salirà del 13,3% a 8.257.029 teu; nel 2006 è previsto un incremento del 14,5% a 9.457.146 teu e nel 2007 del 13,4% a 10.723.995 teu. Nel periodo 2005-2007 la capacità crescerà mediamente del 13,7%. Le proiezioni, basate sull'orderbook dei cantieri mondiali al 15 gennaio scorso, sono di BRS-Alphaliner. La società francese precisa che, al , le navi cellulari sono 3.371 per una capacità di 7.312.302 teu, mentre la capacità complessiva della flotta delle 5.112 portacontainer impiegate nei servizi di linea ammonta a 8.190.186 teu. .
