
Last month, the Port of Barcelona handled over 6.7
million tons of goods, down -2.9% on May 2024.
The reduction in the volumes of goods in containers has been accentuated, which are
amounted to 2.9 million tonnes (-13.1%) with a
handling of containers amounting to 316 thousand TEUs (-8.3%), of which
182 thousand in import-export (-22.7%) and 134 thousand in transit (+22.9%). The
Growth in containers in transit follows five months of declines in
this traffic flow culminated in April with a contraction
-49.4%. Dry bulk cargo also declined markedly
with 250 thousand tons (-43.7%), while liquid bulk cargo was
increased by +29.2% to 1.8 million tonnes and increased
conventional goods were also found with over 1.1 million
tons (+1.5%). Last month, ferry passengers in the
Catalan port were 112 thousand (-4.4%) and cruise passengers 490 thousand
(+11,4%).
In the first five months of 2025, container traffic in the
Port of Barcelona amounted to 1.54 million TEUs, with
a decrease of -5.8% on the same period of last year
year, of which 911 thousand TEUs in import-export (+5.9%) and 632 thousand TEUs in
transit (-18.8%).
Last month, the port of Valencia also decreased
container traffic which amounted to 527 thousand TEUs
(-1.4%), with only one volume of containers in transit - it announced
today the Port Authority of the port - which recorded a
drop of almost -5%.
In the first five months of this year, containerized traffic
in Valencia was 2.35 million TEUs, up by
+4.7% over the same period of 2024, with a reduction of -1.0% in
volumes of full containers in transit and a decrease of -17.3% in
empty containers in transit.
