
Yesterday, the Senate of Bremen approved the expansion plan
of the port of Bremerhaven by creating the necessary conditions for
implement measures previously agreed between the federal government
and the Land of Bremen and to kick off the investment
of 1.35 billion euros allocated last November
to develop the port as a logistics and maritime hub
also with a view to meeting the needs of the armed forces of the
Federal Republic of Germany and its NATO partners for
Rapidly deploy personnel and materials in case of emergencies

November 2025). Investments will include works outside the
of the port area, also involving connections with
the hinterland and with Bremen airport.
Of the total amount, the direct financial contribution of
Bremen amounts to around 202.3 million euros, largely financed
through the fund dedicated to port infrastructures. The others
investments are divided between the federal government and the Land, and for each
individual project was assessed for military utility
in order to determine the share of expenditure borne by the government
federal. The initiative is based on NATO requirements which must be
partially met by 2027 and fully by 2031.
The mayor of Bremen, Andreas Bovenschulte, pointed out that
