
The Greek shipowning group Attica Holdings has filed the first half of 2022 with negative financial results despite the marked increase in revenues that recorded a increase of +64.9% on the first half of last year, but showed substantial positive changes also with respect to the corresponding semesters of the annual financial years preceding the Covid-19 pandemic that has had an exceptional negative impact on shipping companies, such as Attica, engaged in the transport of passengers and rolling stock. Negative performance is the effect of a corresponding and more pronounced increase in operating costs, which was determined in particular - explained the group - from the continuation of the increase in the price of fuel oil consumed by ships that in the first half of 2022 is result +99% higher than in the same period of last year.
In the first six months of this year the revenues of the Hellenic group amounted to €201.4 million compared to €122.2 million in the first half of 2021, with a growth that, if compared last year it was +64.9%, compared to the first semester of 2020, when the activity already had accused the impact of the health crisis, was +72.2%, but with increases of +22.8% and +53% respectively also compared to the first semesters of 2019 and 2018 when the emergency International health had not yet begun.
The increase in revenues totaled in the first half of the 2022 mainly contributed to both sales gains of sea crossings at national level stood at 137.6 million euro (+56.8%, +66.0%, +17.0% and +51.5% respectively on first semesters of 2021, 2020, 2019 and 2018), than those of the international crossing sales of 57.1 million euro (+85.8%, +84.3%, +40.8% and +61.3%). In the first six operating costs amounted to €211.9 million this year of euro (+62.3%, +78.2%, +45.0% and +84.9%).
In the first half of this year the values of EBITDA, EBIT and the net economic result were all negative and equal to -9.6 million, -34.5 million and -30.5 million respectively of euro against negative results for -4.4 million, -29.0 million and -34.0 million euro in the first six months of 2021.
In the first half of 2022 the ships of the Greek group, operate under the brands Superfast Ferries, Blue Star Ferries, Africa Morocco Link (AML) and Hellenic Seaways transported 2.1 million of passengers, with growth of +108% and +91% on the former semesters of 2021 and 2020, with a decrease of -16.0% on the first semester of 2019 and an increase of +2.4% on the first half of the 2018. In addition, the fleet transported 352 thousand private cars (+56%, +92%, +3% and +26%) and 208 thousand load units (+16%, +28%, +8% and +24%).
Recall that in recent days Attica has agreed with the creditors of compatriot Anek and with the shareholders of companies representing 57.7% of the share capital of the Anek the merger by incorporation of Anek (
of 21 September 2022). Attica and Anek have been operating for some time in joint service in maritime connections in the Adriatic and with the island of Crete.
