    Les ports américains de la côte ouest sont restés fermés pendant toute la journée de lundi dernier et il en était de même ce mardi matin. On pouvait s’attendre que cette situation perdure, la Pacific Maritime Association restant sur ses positions, à savoir que le syndicat doit s’en tenir à l’accord précédent tant qu’il n’y a pas de nouvelle convention et qu’assurance doit être donnée qu’il n’y aura pas de travail au ralenti. L’ILWU a rejeté cette demande mais laissait entendre qu’une rencontre avec un médiateur était possible avant que n’intervienne une nouvelle rencontre avec le patronat prévue pour ce mercredi. De même le syndicat n’avait pas rejeté l’idée d’une réunion jeudi à Washington avec le Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. Le patronat pour sa part s’est toujours montré partisan de l’intervention d’un médiateur. Sur le terrain, la situation prend des allures inquiétantes en ce sens que des navires sont inactifs dans les ports, d’autres en attente, tandis que la grogne s’installe du côté des transporteurs routiers. Enfin, tant aux Etats-Unis qu’en Asie, d’aucuns commencent à évaluer les conséquences de cette situation.
  • Dart Line aligne un troisième navire entre Zeebrugge et Dartford
    L’opérateur de ferry fret Dart Line, une filiale de l’entreprise sud-africaine Bidcorp (qui a repris le groupe Jacobs l’an dernier), a cette semaine lancé un troisième départ par jour sur la route entre Zeebrugge et Dartford. Hier, le “Bazias 1” a été aligné pour la première fois. Le navire quittera désormais chaque jour le port côtier belge à 16.00h, alors que le départ depuis le port britannique est prévu à 03.00h du matin. L’augmentation de la fréquence est une réponse aux besoins du marché, car Dart Line a vu ses volumes augmenter continuellement au cours des quatorze derniers mois arrivant à 135.000 unités fret sur base annuelle à Zeebrugge. C’est ce que nous a affirmé Helmut Walgraeve de Dart Line.

    Le groupe américain FedEx Corp a dévoilé un ambitieux plan d’investissement de 1,8 mia. d’USD, réparti sur six ans, pour sa division de colis “terrestres” FedEx Ground. L’objectif est de doubler la capacité de traitement des envois et de la faire passer de 2,5 millions de colis par jour actuellement à 4,8 millions d’unités d’ici la fin de l’année fiscale 2009. FedEx Ground est actuellement la division du groupe qui connaît la croissance plus rapide. Cette décision intervient alors que le groupe estime que son réseau global air/terre (la division FedEx Express) est désormais quasi achevé, de sorte que les besoins en capitaux de celui-ci vont diminuer.

    Il semble que l’agenda des ministres européens des Transports qui tiendront jeudi prochain leur première réunion sous la présidence du Danemark au Luxembourg, sera peu étoffé. Des décisions importantes ne doivent dès lors pas être attendues. Pour la première fois depuis longtemps aucun sujet maritime ne sera abordé. Les Danois attribuent cela au fait que l’Espagne, qui a présidé l’UE avant eux, a réussi à faire avaliser la directive portuaire. “En concertation avec la Commission européenne et les Etats membres nous avons décidé d’à nouveau prêter attention à des questions maritimes en décembre”, déclare un porte-parole danois de l’UE.
