    La Commission européenne a attribué à P&O Stena Line une exemption de six ans aux règles de concurrence européennes pour l’exploitation des services ferry transmanches, tant pour les passagers que pour le fret. En janvier 1999, l’entreprise commune P&O Stena Line avait déjà obtenu une brève exemption. Il est ressorti d’une étude de la Commission européenne que peu de changements se sont manifestés sur le marché. Autrement, l’entreprise britannique P&O et Stena Line Ltd., une filiale de l’entreprise suédoise P&O Stena Line AB, auraient pu être obligées de mettre fin à leur collaboration.
