I CAMION SENZA AUTISTA POTREBBERO DOMINARE I TRAFFICI DI TRAGHETTI DEL REGNO UNITO NEL GIRO DI UNA GENERAZIONE

I camion senza autista potrebbero dominare i traffici ro-ro del Regno Unito nel giro di una generazione, secondo un rapporto pubblicato dalla British Ports Association in collaborazione con la ditta di consulenze specializzata in trasporto merci MDS Transmodal, il quale prevede che la diffusione dei veicoli pesanti autonomi indurrà una nuova categoria di 'ro-ro accompagnato' con una quota di mercato dell'80% entro il 2050.

Il libro bianco nota che se i veicoli pesanti senza autista dovessero sostituire gran parte dei camion convenzionali e del trasporto containerizzato nel giro di una generazione, trasformerebbero il modo in cui il mercato ro-ro funziona in Gran Bretagna.

I cambiamenti previsti comprendono una significativa crescita della quota di mercato dei traffici ro-ro 'accompagnati senza autista', in particolare attraverso i porti del Mare del Nord e della Manica occidentale.

Il documento conclude ci si aspetta che gli sviluppi tecnici e le pressioni commerciali ed ambientali incoraggino gli operatori di trasporto merci a guardare a modalità nuove ed innovative per spedire i traffici di valore relativamente alto che saranno trasportati in semirimorchi attraverso i porti britannici del futuro.

Lo studio esamina come i traffici di merci fra le isole britanniche ed il continente europeo potrebbero cambiare a lungo termine dopo la Brexit.

Esso traccia come una grande percentuale dei traffici marittimi del Regno Unito viaggerà nel 2050 nel contesto di uno scenario di "autonomia e riduzione del carbonio' in cui i veicoli pesanti autonomi ed a basse emissioni saranno diffusamente impiegati.

Ciò comporterà conseguenze sui porti del Regno Unito e sullo shipping ma anche sulle strade e le altre infrastrutture nazionali del Regno Unito come i colleganti ferroviari, si sottolinea.

Il libro bianco 'The Impact of Autonomous and Ultra-Low Emission HGVs on the British RORO Port Market' è pubblicato nel contesto del Port Futures Programme della BPA che esamina le tendenze emergenti nel settore marittimo ed esplora le opportunità e le problematiche che si potranno presentare ai porti britannici nel corso dei prossimi 50 anni.

Phoebe Warneford-Thomson, analista in materia di politiche ed economia presso la British Ports Association, afferma: ""Ci sono senza dubbio notevoli problematiche in vista per il settore ro-ro ed il settore portuale allargato, come la trasformazione alle emissioni zero di carbonio ed il passaggio all'automazione.

Tuttavia, con la dettagliata analisi e la lungimiranza mostrate in questo rapporto, siamo in grado di programmare i cambiamenti in vista e trasformarli in lucrose opportunità.

Mediante la previsione delle future tendenze nel settore ro-ro ed il far sì che i porti possano provvedere alla potenziale crescita della tipologia di traffico 'accompagnato senza autista' si possono prevedere tali cambiamenti ed essere pronti a massimizzare i vantaggi economici".

Chris Rowland, direttore generale della MDS Transmodal, afferma: "Restano barriere tecniche, normative ed economiche riguardo all'impiego di veicoli pesanti autonomi sulla rete autostradale britannica da qui al 2050.

Tuttavia, data la politica che impone la riduzione delle emissioni e la necessità derivante dal mercato di incrementare l'efficienza del trasporto merci stradale, in particolare alla luce dei costi in aumento per gli autisti dei veicoli pesanti, prevediamo un notevole impegno a livello di settore per superare queste barriere.

Questo a sua volta potrebbe avere implicazioni per gli altri mercati.

Il nostro modello di scenario per i veicoli autonomi ed elettrici nel 2050 suggerisce che i potenziali sviluppi comprendono un considerevole spostamento del traffico verso la modalità ro-ro 'accompagnata senza autista' attraverso i porti situati sul Mare del Nord e della manica occidentale e questo comporterebbe implicazioni per le operazioni portuali ro-ro ed il quantitativo di terreno richiesto".

Il modello di scenario che utilizza il GBFM (GB Freight Model) della MDS Transmodal suggerisce che l'introduzione dei veicoli pesanti autonomi comporterebbe una spinta alla modalità ro-ro accompagnata, che si assicurerebbe una quota di mercato dell'80% nel 2050.

Poiché questo impulso della quota è in gran parte dovuto ai costi inferiori per gli autisti, si realizzerebbe un nuovo tipo di traffico ro-ro 'accompagnato senza autista'.

Questo incremento dei veicoli pesanti autonomi ed il conseguente aumento dei traffici ro-ro 'accompagnati senza autista' comporterebbe la crescita dei traffici attraverso i porti in quasi tutte le parti della Gran Bretagna, ma in particolare attraverso l'Humber e la Manica occidentale.

Le conseguenze sugli specifici porti variano a seconda della loro attuale composizione di traffici ro-ro accompagnati e non accompagnati ed a seconda della loro ubicazione geografica.

Il rapporto conclude che, malgrado gli ostacoli da superare prima che i veicoli pesanti autonomi e ad emissioni ultra-base siano operativi sulle autostrade britanniche, è probabile che ci sia una notevole futura concentrazione sul superamento di questi ostacoli dato che gli operatori cercano di ridurre i costi e restare competitivi.

Inoltre, ciò farebbe sì che le filiere britanniche di trasporto marittimo a corto raggio diventino sia più efficienti dal punto di vista economico che più sostenibili.
