Trasporto marittimo

Continua l'espansione delle due maggiori compagnie di navigazione cinesi

Sia la COSCON che la CSCL (China Shipping Container Lines) sono nomi affermati nel settore della navigazione di linea globale, occupando rispettivamente la sesta e la ottava posizione nella classifica degli operatori stilata sulla base degli slot impiegati.

Nel contempo, entrambe le compagnie di navigazione hanno notevoli registri di ordinazioni in corso.

Mentre la COSCON ha in programma la presa in consegna di 65 navi per complessivamente oltre 595.000 TEU nel giro dei prossimi cinque anni, ci si aspetta che la CSCL immetta in servizio 23 navi per un ammontare combinato di slot di poco meno di 170.000 TEU.

Tuttavia, queste ultime ordinazioni sono spalmate su soli due anni, di modo che il vettore dispone di tempo in abbondanza per effettuare ordinazioni con consegna prevista per il 2012 ed il 2013.

Questo nuovo tonnellaggio farà aumentare le loro capacità operative rispettivamente del 129% e del 41,6%, sebbene qualche rottamazione delle unità più vecchie, in particolare nel caso della COSCON, possa comportare una riduzione di questo tasso di crescita.

Anche se questa capacità aggiuntiva è necessaria al fine di far fronte alle crescenti esportazioni della Cina, una situazione da cui hanno tratto vantaggio tutti e due i vettori sinora, l'enorme investimento in nuovo tonnellaggio è più che altro dovuto alle ambizioni globali di entrambi i vettori.

Inoltre, gli amministratori sia della COSCO che della CSCL hanno sottolineato la necessità di impiegare le macchine più moderne e più efficienti riguardo al consumo di carburante e mantengono una rete di servizi completa al fine di competere efficacemente con operatori quali la Maersk Line, la CMA CGM, la APL e la NYK Line.

Di qui la decisione di entrambi i vettori di ordinare navi molto grandi: la COSCON ha recentemente ordinato, per un costo complessivo di 1,33 miliardi di dollari USA, 8 navi da 13.350 TEU ed oltre alla società Nantong Cosco KHI Ship Engineering; la loro consegna è prevista nel 2012 e 2013.

Un numero simile di unità leggermente più piccole da 13.092 TEU è in costruzione presso la Hyundai Heavy Industries in Corea del Sud nel contesto di un noleggio a lungo termine con la Seaspan Corp di Vancouver.

La COSCON spera di poter avere in servizio quest'ultima serie di navi entro la fine del 2011.

Anche la CSCL ha in costruzione navi della classe da 13.000 TEU; otto di queste unità sono in fase di realizzazione presso la Samsung Heavy Industries e la loro consegna è prevista tra il 2010 ed il 2012.

Nell'ambito di altre iniziative, la COSCON sta collaborando con la K Line, la Yangming e la Hanjin, vale a dire i suoi soci a lungo termine sui principali traffici est-ovest, allo scopo di ampliare il raggio delle proprie operazioni.

All'inizio di quest'anno, il cosiddetto gruppo CKYH ha organizzato un summit nel corso del quale i quattro membri si sono accordati nel senso di rafforzare le proprie relazioni lavorando assieme per affrontare importanti questioni, quali l'aumento dei prezzi dei rifornimenti, l'ambiente e la congestione.

In particolare, il gruppo CKYH esplorerà le opportunità presenti in settori quali i servizi regionali di raccordo, il raggruppamento degli equipaggiamenti e gli investimenti terminalistici.

La COSCON dispone già di partecipazioni azionarie in un certo numero di infrastrutture; si tratta di un settore che dalla dirigenza viene considerato “strategicamente significativo”.

Anche la CSCL intende investire nei porti, dato che la linea di navigazione ha in programma l'acquisizione dei beni della China Shipping Terminal Development dalla sua società-madre, il gruppo China Shipping.

La società ha interessi in molti porti cinesi, tra cui il complesso Wagaoqiao di Shanghai, Dalian, Lianyungang, Jinzhou, Tianjin e Guangzhou (complesso Nansha).

Anche se entrambe le compagnie di navigazione sono assai concentrate sui traffici est/ovest, non vengono comunque ignorati il nord/sud e gli altri mercati emergenti.

In particolare, la COSCON ha rafforzato la propria presenza sulle rotte in rapida crescita fra l'Estremo Oriente ed il Sudamerica, l'Africa ed il Medio Oriente/Asia meridionale.

Anche in questo caso, la COSCON ha preferito un approccio di tipo collaborativo, lavorando con vettori come la Evergreen.

Al contrario, la dirigenza della CSCL ha adottato una strategia di natura più solitaria per le proprie attività di linea.

Il suo approccio, in particolare nei primi anni sotto la guida del c.e.o. Li Kelin, è stato quello di conservare la massima flessibilità operativa, assicurandosi alla svelta nel contempo “decenti” quote di mercato nei traffici-chiave.

Ciononostante, sono stati siglati accordi selettivi di condivisione degli slot e partenze coordinate, dal momento che il vettore ha cercato di ampliare la copertura portuale ed aumentare la frequenza delle partenze più rapidamente di quanto il suo nuovo tonnellaggio avrebbe consentito.

In particolare, sono stati conclusi accordi con la CMA CGM sui traffici del transpacifico, dell'Estremo Oriente/Europa e del transatlantico, nonché con la Zim.

Anche se ad un certo punto si era pensato che tra CSCL e CMA CGM avrebbe potuto essere stipulata un'alleanza globale, negli ultimi 12 mesi si è assistito alla separazione fra i due vettori in diverse rotte, tra cui segnatamente il transpacifico, dove ora il vettore francese ha come soci la Maersk e la MSC.

Più recentemente, la CSCL ha dato impulso alla propria capacità sul traffico Asia/Costa Orientale del Sudamerica, mediante un accordo in ordine ad un'operazione congiunta con la CMA CGM, la K Line e la Maruba in relazione a servizi in due giorni fissi della settimana.

Anche se la CSCL ha preso d'assalto il mercato globale di linea, le sue operazioni merci nazionali restano significative, dato che il vettore ha movimentato ben più di 700.000 TEU nei propri traffici di cabotaggio lo scorso anno

Ciò è equivalso al 40% circa del mercato.

Oltre ad effettuare operazioni con navi ed a gestire servizi di linea, i due gruppi hanno investito in servizi a valore aggiunto di trasporto terrestre e di logistica.

Con il loro desiderio di colmare il divario nelle proprie reti globali, di impiegare le navi più moderne ed efficienti rispetto al consumo di carburante che diano loro accesso alle migliori economie di scala in queste attività, nonché di investire in servizi logistici a valore aggiunto, la COSCON e la CSCL sono pronte a diventare forze molto più grandi nell'ambito del settore globale della navigazione di linea.
