On file aujourd’hui à 30/40 noeuds sur les mers, ceci essentiellement dans le cas d’unités short sea. Les porte-containers sont devenus plus grands, on en est à 8.000 TEU et plus rapides soit 25 à 26 noeuds. Dans le premier cas, cela permet d’accélérer les rotations des unités et de transporter plus avec moins de tonnage. Dans le second cas, les économies d’échelle sont considérables et cela permet de faire face à une croissance continue des volumes à transporter.
