- In 2021 the traffic of goods enlivened by ports
Italians are back almost to the level of 2019
-
- Giampieri (Assoporti): the unpredictability of the conflict
between Russia and Ukraine is creating and is destined to create
further changes in the flow of goods but also in traffic
passengers

Last year the Italian ports have enlivened
a total of 481.5 million tons of goods. The data, returned
known by the Association of Italian Ports (Assoporti), represents
an increase of +8.4% on 2020 and a decrease of -1.8% on the year
pre-pandemic of 2019. In the field of miscellaneous goods only, cargoes
containerized were found to be up compared to both
years being amounted to 117.0 million tons (+2.4% on 2020
and +5.1% on 2019), a volume that was achieved with a
handling of containers equal to 11,296,719 teu (respectively
+5.7% and +4.8%), of which 7,195,426 teu in import-export (+8.8% and
-0.2%) and 4,101,293 teu in transhipment (+0.7% and +14.8%); on the rise
also rolling stock with a total of 123.5 million tons
(+15.3% and +9.1%); other miscellaneous goods, with 20.4 million
tons in 2021, have resulted in increase of +24.6% on 2020 and
down -12.6% on 2019. In the liquid bulk sector are
163.8 million tons were handled, with a progression
+4.4% on 2020 and a reduction of -10.4% on 2019. Analogous
performance in the dry bulk segment with 56.8 million
tons, up +15.2% on 2020 and decreasing by
-4.8% on 2019.-
- Last year, in the passenger sector, traffic
total in Italian ports was 43.4 million
people, with an increase of +33.6% and a decrease of -35.8% on the
2019, including 13.5 million ferry passengers
(respectively +39.8% and -25.0%) and over 2.4 million
cruise passengers (+281.0% and -79.6%).

- As for the traffic handled by the ports that are part of the
jurisdictions of the individual Port System Authorities
Italian, last year the ports of Western Liguria have
enlivened 63.7 million tons of goods (+10.9% and -5.2%), of
which 48.8 million tons in the port of Genoa (+10.6% and -7.4%)
and 14.8 million tons in the port of Savona-Vado Ligure (+11.8%
and +3.2%). The ports of Eastern Liguria have enlivened 16.5
million tons (+3.1% and -12.5%), of which 13.1 million
tons in the port of La Spezia (-2.5% and -17.8%) and 3.5 million
tons in the port of Marina di Carrara (+31.6% and +15.4%).

- Moving on to the Tuscan ports managed by the AdSP of the Tyrrhenian Sea
Northern, the total was 41.3 million
tons (+9.7% and -8.2%), of which 34.3 million tons
handled by the port of Livorno (+8.1% and -6.5%), 4.2 million
tons from the port of Piombino (+13.7% and -22.6%) and 2.7 million
tons from the ports of the Island of Elba (+26.2% and -2.5%).

- Last year the Lazio ports of the AdSP of the Tyrrhenian Sea
Central-Northern have enlivened 13.4 million tons
of cargoes (+18.8% and -8.5%), of which 9.6 million tons in the
port of Civitavecchia (+20.2% and +0.8%), 1.9 million tons
in the port of Fiumicino (+11.8% and -44.2%) and 1.8 million tons
in the port of Gaeta (+19.3% and +14.6%).

- As for the Campania ports of the AdSP of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea, the
global figure has been of 33,4 million tons (+8.4% and
+1.0%), of which 17.9 million tons in the port of Naples (+9.3%
and -3.6%) and 15.5 million tons in that of Salerno (+7.4% and
+6,8%).

- In 2021 the ports administered by the System Authority
Port of the Southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian Seas have enlivened 39.0
million tons (-3.1% and +31.1%), volume for almost all
enlivened in the port of Gioia Tauro which closed the year with 38.6
million tons (-2.8% and +32.4%) to which are added 281 thousand
tons handled by the port of Corigliano Calabro (-20.0% and
-30.4%) and 184 thousand from the port of Crotone (-26.0% and -21.7%).

- The ports managed by the AdSP of the Strait have enlivened a
traffic of 29.6 million tons (+11.7% and -2.0%), of which 15.6
million tons in the port of Milazzo (+2.6% and -14.4%), 7.1
million tons in the port of Messina-Tremestieri (+23.5% and
+16.5%), 6.0 million tons at Villa San Giovanni (+27.4% and
+19.5%) and 759 thousand tons in the port of Reggio Calabria (+6.8% and
+3,7%).

- In 2021 the port of Taranto, the only port of call managed by the AdSP of the
Ionian Sea, has enlivened 17.5 million tons of goods
(+11.1% and -3.3%).

- Going up the Adriatic, last year the ports of the AdSP del Mare
Southern Adriatic handled 16.8 million tons
of cargoes (+3.0% and +8.2%), of which 6.7 million tons in the
port of Brindisi (-1.5% and +1.1%), 7.3 million tons in the
port of Bari (+6.7% and +19.7%), 729 thousand tons in the port of
Barletta (+1.4% and -9.4%), 639 thousand tons in that of
Manfredonia (+3.3% and +12.3%) and 521 thousand tons in the port of
Monopolies (+26.7% and +0.6%).

- The ports of the AdSP of the Central Adriatic have enlivened a
total of almost 12.0 million tons of goods (+20.9% and
+1.3%), of which 10.8 million tons in the port of
Ancona-Falconara (+22.2% and +0.5%) and 1.1 million tons in the
port of Ortona (+9.7% and +10.0%).

- The port of Ravenna administered by the port authority
of the Central-Northern Adriatic has enlivened 27.1 million
tons (+20.9% and +3.2%).

- Moving on to the Venetian ports of the Adriatic AdSP
Northern, the traffic in the port of Venice was
24.2 million tons (+8.0% and -3.1%) and in the port of Chioggia
of 1.1 million tons (+16.7% and -18.8%) for a total of 25.3
million tons (+8.3% and -3.9%).

- The ports of the AdSP of the Eastern Adriatic Sea have enlivened
58.6 million tons (+2.7% and -11.3%), of which 55.4 million
tons in the port of Trieste (+2.2% and -10.7%) and 3.3 million
tons in the port of Monfalcone (+11.4% and -19.9%).

- As for the major islands, in 2021 the ports of the AdSP del Mare
of Western Sicily have enlivened 10.2 million tons
(+19.0% and +22.0%), with the port of Palermo handling 7.6%
million tons (+4.7% and +31.9%), the port of Termini Imerese
more than 1.3 million tons (+113.0% and +95.2%), the port
of Trapani 612 thousand tons (+134.8% and +8.8%) and that of Porto
Empedocles 554 thousand tons (+58.8% and -56.7%).

- The ports of the AdSP of the Sea of Eastern Sicily have
enlivened 33.2 million tons of cargo (+2.6% and +0.4%),
of which 25.1 million tons in the port of Augsburg (+4.5% and
+2.1%) and almost 8.1 million tons in that of Catania (-3.1%
and -4.6%).

- Last year traffic in ports under jurisdictions
of the AdSP of the Sea of Sardinia amounted to 44.0 million
tons (+14.8% and -4.8%), of which 31.2 million tons
handled by the port of Cagliari-Sarroch (+14.0% and -10.0%), 6.8
million tons from the port of Olbia (+23.7% and +22.3%), 2.8
million tons from the port of Porto Torres (-2.1% and -23.9%),
1.7 million tons from the port of Oristano (+25.2% and +16.0%),
1.3 million tons from the port of Portoscuso-Portovesme (+16.8%
and +96.7%), 109 thousand tons from the port of Golfo Aranci (-6.2% and
-32.6%) and 77 thousand tons from the port of Santa Teresa di Gallura
(+355.9% and +320.7%).

- Commenting on the data of the volumes of goods handled last year
year from Italian ports, looking to the future the president of
Assoporti, Rodolfo Giampieri, noted that unpredictability
of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is creating and is destined
to create further changes in the flows of goods but also in the
passenger traffic. With reference to the goods - he announced - yes
estimate that those transported by sea to/from Russia (Mar
Black) and Ukraine are about 38 million tons. For
passengers and cruises - he added - uncertainties, risks and
the restrictions in the area will obviously have negative effects on the
traffic.
