- In 2020, hauliers handled 77% of
goods in the EU

- Decline in rail and road transport
of internal water

In 2020 more than three quarters of land and river transport
of goods within the European Union has been handled by
hauliers having been transported by road 77% of the
total volume of activity in terms of
tons-kilometers. This was announced by Eurostat, specifying that the
rail transport accounted for 17% of the total and the
transport on inland waterways 6%.-
- The EU statistical office explained that in 2020 the share
of road transport grew by one percentage point
compared to the previous year and four percentage points compared to
to 2012 when this share reached the minimum of the last
decade. For rail transport, on the other hand, the share of 17% of the
2020 is the lowest percentage on record
in the last decade, with a drop of one percentage point compared to the
2019 and two percentage points compared to 2011 when it was
reached the highest share in the last decade. Also the
share of inland waterway transport has decreased
at the same level (6%) as the minimum share of the last
decade marked in 2018 and recorded a decrease of 0.2 points
percentages on 2019 and two percentage points compared to the maximum
of the decade established in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
