- The increase in the six-monthly traffic of the port system
Antwerp-Bruges was held back by the decline (-9.8%) in loads
in containers

- In the second quarter alone recorded a growth of +1.2%

In the first half of this year the port system
Antwerp-Bruges, born at the beginning of last spring from the merger
of the administrations of the airports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge
(
of 12
February 2021), enlivened a freight traffic of 147.2
million tons, with a slight increase of +1.4% on the first
semester of 2021 when the total was 145.2 million
tonnes, of which 120.0 million cargoes handled by the port of
Antwerp and 25.2 million from the port of Zeebrugge.-
- In the first six months of this year the core business of the new
port system, that of containers, has acted as a brake with respect to
upwards in volumes handled in all other sectors
commodities. Container traffic, in fact, was
pari a 74,1 milioni di tons, with a marked decrease of -9.8%
on the first half of 2021. In terms of containers of 20
feet moved, container traffic was equal to
almost 6.8 million teu (-6.2%). The port authority has
specified that the container flow reduction is
consequence of persistent supply dysfunctions and congestions
containerized maritime chain, with ship delays and high
volumes of import loads, to which the
reduction of -39% of traffic with Russia as a result of the
conflict in Ukraine.

- On the other hand, other goods are growing strongly, starting from
liquid and solid bulk, attesting respectively to
47,3 million tons (+16.5%) and 8,7 million tons
(+17.6%), as well as rolling stock and freight traffic
conventional, piled to 10,9 million tons (+8.9%) and 6.4
million tons (+22.0%). Handling is also recovering
of cars with more than 1.7 million vehicles (+2.4%).

- In the second quarter of 2022 alone, the Belgian port system
handled about 75.1 million tons of cargo, with a
progression of +1.2% on the same period last year. The
containerized volumes are decreased of the -8,4% to 37,7 million of
Tons. On the other hand, both bulk and loads are on the rise
liquids that have totaled 24,4 million tons (+14.8%) and
solid ones 4,5 million tons (+26.7%), both rolling stock with
5.5 million tons (+6.3%) that conventional goods with 3.3
million tons (+6.4%).
