- The port of Barcelona has set its own new record
of semi-annual container traffic

- In the first half of 2022 it was exceeded by
the first time quota 1,8 million teu

In the first six months of this year the port of Barcelona has
established its new historical record of half-year traffic
of goods having handled 35.3 million tonnes of
loads, with an increase of +10.3% compared to the first half
of 2021. The new peak has been reached thanks to the
substantial volumes of goods handled both in the first and in the
second quarter of 2022 that are only below the record
quarterly of 18.3 million tons marked in the period
April-June of the pre-pandemic year of 2019.-
- In the second quarter of this year the Spanish port of call
handled a total of 17.8 million tonnes of
loads, with a progression of +9.8% over the corresponding period
of 2021. In the field of miscellaneous goods, containerized cargoes
are piled to 10,1 million tons (+8.1%) with a
container handling that amounted to 928 thousand
teu (+4.8%), of which 496 thousand teu in import-export (-1.2%) and 431 thousand
teu in transit (+12.7%), while conventional goods have
totaled 3.0 million tons (+8.2%). Liquid bulk
increased by +26.9% rising to almost 3.5 million tons,
while dry bulk decreased by -11.3% to 1.1 million
Tons. If in the passenger sector the activity of the
ferries showed a clear recovery of +134.6% with 360 thousand
passengers, the activity in the cruise segment, almost
stops with less than 3 thousand passengers in the second quarter of 2021 to
due to the pandemic, it recorded 578 thousand passengers.

- The new overall traffic record achieved in the first
semester of 2022 was generated by the new historical peak
of the six-monthly containerized traffic that stood at
19,4 million tons (+2.0%) with a handling of
containers that has been pairs to 1,8 million teu (+0.7%), of
of which 993 thousand in import-export (-1.0%) and 811 thousand in transit (+2.9%).
In the first six months of this year, conventional goods have
attested to 5.8 million tons (+9.7%), liquid bulk to
7.9 million tons (+42.8%) and solid bulk to 2.3 million
of tons (+3.2%). The handling of cars is
was 249 thousand vehicles (-13.0%). In the field of ferries the
traffic has been of 520 thousand passengers (+118.2%) and in that
of cruises of 670 thousand passengers (+23,424.2%).
