    Legal decisions will determine whether there will be a massive escalation of the waterfront dispute within hours.
    The Maritime Union of Australia's national secretary, John Coombs, warned yesterday of the escalation if Patrick were successful in getting an injunction against picketlines.
    "If they get an injunction we will escalate the dispute and escalate it very quickly," Mr Coombs said.
    Patrick said yesterday that it would apply to the Supreme Court in an effort to stop obstructions at its dock facilities.
