Alors que les premières statistiques remises par l’Autriche semblaient indiquer un dépassement du seuil de 108 % en 2000, un examen plus approfondi des chiffres a remis en cause ces données: elles n’apportaient aucune preuve de la réalité effective du transit. La Commission a conclu que l’Autriche doit fournir des statistiques claires et sans ambiguïté, prouvant que les transits ont bien eu lieu. En conséquence, la Commission distribuera les écopoints restants pour l’année 2001.

Deltalinqs, l’alliance rotterdamoise des entreprises portuaires et de l’industrie (pétrochimique), vient de réitérer ce point de vue et souligne en outre qu’elle accroîtra ses propres efforts en vue de solutionner le problème. Elle estime que l’absence de contrôles dans d’autres ports européens nuit directemetn à la compétitivité du port de Rotterdam.
